Course Overview
Mimesis is a major theme in the gospel of John and describes the process of following the one who beckons us to come and see. The words “mimesis”, “imitate”, and “mimic” all have a common origin. We will focus specifically on the human reflective capacity as illustrated in the Gospel of John. In particular, the concept of mimetic desire, as developed by Rene Girard, will inform our exploration.
